Plate Corals are a group of a few different species that are free living solitary corals found in the sand bed under low lighting and low to moderate flow. Some different types of plate corals include fungias, heliofungias (long tentacle), cycloseris, diaseris, lithophyllon, and tongue corals.
Although Plate Corals are mainly photosynthetic, relying on the products of their zooxanthellae, they should also be fed phytoplankton, zooplankton and mysis, as well as other products like Coral Feast and Reef Energy or other amino acids and probiotics. Of course, you should always maintain proper water parameters by maintaining good calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity levels.

They are found in a variety of different colors and patterns and are very popular in the aquarium hobby. Most plate corals cannot be aquacultured, but a couple popular species that has been discovered to propagate easily and successfully, are diaseris plates and tongue corals.
